Privacy Policy

We collect as little information as we can. This page explains what is collected when you visit IrishFolklore.com, why, who else is involved, and the choices you have.

Who We Are

IrishFolklore.com is operated by FourthMedia, Inc in Ontario, Canada. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the site. If you have a question about your privacy, you can reach us through our Contact page or by email at hello@irishfolklore.com.

Information Collected When You Visit

Like almost every website, our servers automatically record some technical information when you load a page. This includes your IP address, the type of browser and device you are using, the page you visited, the page that sent you here, and the date and time. We use this information to keep the site running, to protect it from abuse, and to fix problems.

We also use Google Analytics to understand how readers use the site, such as which articles are read most and how people find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information about your visit, including an approximate location based on your IP address. We use these reports only in aggregate. We don’t use them to identify individual readers. Google Analytics runs only if you allow analytics cookies in our cookie settings.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject cookies by category. Necessary cookies, which the site needs to work and to remember your cookie choices, are always active. Functional, analytics, and advertising cookies are used only if you allow them. You can change your choices at any time by clicking the cookie icon in the corner of the page.

Contact Form

When you send us a message through our contact form, we receive your name, your email address, and whatever you choose to write. We use this information only to read and reply to your message. We don’t add you to a mailing list, and we don’t sell or share your details. The form includes a hidden spam check that doesn’t collect any personal information.

If you share a family story with us, we will never publish it, or any part of it, without your permission.

Some of these providers are based in the United States or other countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards.

How Long We Keep Information

We keep information only for as long as we need it. Contact messages are kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable time afterward, in case you write to us again. Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account, which is [RETENTION PERIOD, such as 14 months]. Server logs are deleted on a regular schedule by our web host.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, or to withdraw your consent. Readers in the European Union and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR, readers in California under the CCPA, and readers in Canada under PIPEDA. To make a request, contact us using the details above. We will respond within the time the law allows, and we won’t treat you differently for making a request.

Children

This site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us, and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add a new service to the site. When we do, we will change the date shown at the top of this page.
