Reporting an Error
We check our facts carefully, but folklore is a tangled subject, and we will sometimes get things wrong. If you spot a mistake, tell us which article it is in and what the problem is. A source is helpful, but it isn’t required.
Corrections from Irish speakers are especially welcome. Irish names can be spelled, and said, in more than one way, and a note from someone who grew up with the language is worth more than any dictionary. When a correction changes an article in a meaningful way, we note the change at the end of the page.
Sharing a Family Story
A great deal of Irish folklore survives because someone’s grandmother told it at the fire, and someone else wrote it down. If a story was told in your family, whether it’s about a fairy fort on the farm, a warning about a particular road, or a cure that only one person knew, we’d love to hear it.
Send us what you remember, even if it’s only a fragment. Tell us the county, and roughly when and from whom you heard it. Those details are what make a story useful to anyone trying to understand where a belief came from. We will never publish anything you send without your permission.
Asking a Question
If you have a question about a creature, a custom, or a story you can’t quite place, ask away. We read every message, and a good question often turns into a new article. We can’t promise a full answer to everything, especially when the honest answer is that nobody wrote it down, but we will tell you what we know and point you to where you can read more.
